"My intention has always been to seek truth. Everyone has it. You go inside yourself, and it is there, like a perfect peace. It eliminates worry and fear."
- Demetra

Artist's Bio

Since her earliest years in the wheat fields of Southern Manitoba, Demetra has been carefully listening to the world around her, and from whispers gleaned has begun to weave with her voice a rich telling of connectedness between the divine and the human heart. Although the form of her voice has often been reborn and reshaped, the impetus that compels her to employ it has remained constant.

In 2009 after moving around the world, completing a film degree in Italy, and following her visual art to galleries in Barcelona, Vienna, and New York, Demetra again gave new form to her voice with the inception of her unofficial album With the Trace of the Wind Wrapped Around My Skin I'll Give My Life to the Tides Sweetly Rolling…

Later that year Demetra took pause from her journeys and returned to her long-time sojourn of Churchill, Manitoba where, in isolation, inspired by the barren tundra, the expansive Arctic Sea, and her own experiences of Love and longing, she wrote the music for her debut album Lone Migration. Produced and recorded by Royal Canoe's Matt Peters, and featuring the musical talents of Rococode's Andrew Braun, Inuit throat singer Nikki Komaksiutiksak, Rachel Moody, Paul Bergman, and Matt Peters, Lone Migration transcends the Northern wilderness in which it was written and suggests, through Demetra's silken, unbridled voice, a deeper meaning.

Following its sold-out album release show at the beginning of 2012, Lone Migration was reviewed in weeklies across Canada. Demetra's music climbed the charts of CBC and campus radio stations, reaching #2 on Exclaim! and Earshot folk and roots charts, and spending six weeks on CBC R3-30 eventually reaching #3.

After two years of touring with Lone Migration, Demetra returns to the studio. Her new EP, Sublimatio, is expected to be released in the summer of 2013.
